After an apparent false start for 3 African teams in the World Cup in Russia, there have been a lot of questions; questions of hope and questions on despair. Alassane Dia, a CAF training instructor spoke to us from Dakar, Senegal and gave us some insights into the continent’s performance in Russia.

As Argentina and Iceland clashed in Moscow’s Spartak Stadium for their World Cup opening match, Malawian football lovers had their focus elsewhere supporting their domestic game.

Some 45,000 fans thronged the Bingu National Stadium in the capital Lilongwe to witness an Airtel Top 8 semefinal clash between Blantyre based Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers. Mike Bango, a top football commentator joined us in this episode.

Like it would be widely imagined, football fans would rather stay at home in front of their screens to follow the World Cup but like witnessed, Bingu National Stadium filled to capacity. Mike Bango told us about Malawi’s special football derby and its domestic support.

Inmates in an Argentine prison last week begun a hunger strike to press authorities to repair the cable TV system so they can watch the World Cup. But elsewhere in Kenya’s Kamiti maximum Prison in the capital Nairobi, inmates took part in a mock World Cup of their own. This episode has the full story.
